| History |
Hugh saw this machine in a paddock on the side of Forrest
Road Armadale WA and after a two year search he found the owner Mr Pengelly, who was then
living in Victoria Park.
Mr Pengelly had been a farmer in the Nungarin area before
retiring and had brought the tractor from the country for his son in law. In the late
1970s the owner and Hugh met on the farm to discuss purchase and delivery. The engine
started without any trouble.
Mr Pengelly asked to be allowed to drive the tractor onto the truck. Half way up the
skids, he stopped the machine and asked his wife to give him a pill which he placed under
his tongue and then finished loading without further ado. All this of course gave Hugh
some anxious moments. |
| Restoration |
The only mechanical work required was re-metaling the big
end and this was carried out by member Don Daw of Byford.
Sand blasting and prime coat painting was paid for out of a grant from the Lotteries
Commission of Western Australia. Final painting was done by Frank Hayward our Curator at
the time.
Frank had used a tractor of the same model during his farming days in Quairaiding and
still enjoys driving this machine. |
